In recent years, the European Union has been paying increasing attention to Central Asia—a region that has traditionally been within the spheres of influence of other big powers. However, today, Central Asia is strengthening its independence and emerging as an important link in the global economy.

On April 3-4 the events of the first “Central Asia – European Union” summit will take place in the city of Samarkand.

During the telephone conversation held on April 1, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Masoud Pezeshkian warmly congratulated each other and the friendly peoples of both countries on the spring holiday of Navruz and the sacred Ramadan holiday – Eid al-Fitr, sincerely wishing peace, prosperity, and well-being.

On April 1, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with a delegation from the People's Republic of China, led by Liu Jianchao, the Head of the International Relations Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.
